PRODUCT | FLIP

I graduated from the Rietveld Academy with lounge chair "Flip". A year later Flip won both the public prize and Elle Decoration Design Talent Award by Cappellini. This cemented product design as my first professional love.

Although I have found my true passion in interior architecture, you can still see and sense my love for product design. I customize a lot to reflect both the building's architecture and the customer's identity.

 

CHALLENGE

I wanted to create a chair in which you can control the (sun) light yourself, while you relax.
The award-winning Flip is unique in both design and function. It is the first lounge chair that doubles as a sunshade and windscreen.

 

CONCEPT

Flip owns its name due to its function: when moving your body, the chair will flip. You can open up or cocoon from your surroundings. Move along with your mood and change Flip’s position in a heartbeat. 

 

You can use Flip as a chair to socialize or shelter, with great acoustics inside. Kids can have a little chit-chat in it, or have a real ball with it: when Flip starts rolling, it turns into a toy.
 

Little Cosy is designed as Flip’s best friend. The little cubist ball rolls along with Flip.
Cosy is multi-functional as a stool, table, and storage space.

SPECIAL ELEMENTS

Flip won a prestigious award and a public prize. It was published in several well-known magazines and exhibited in prestigious places such as the Philips Lighting exhibition at the Milan Design Week, and the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam.
